Having been on the same corner for over 160 years, many members of our community tell us "I know that little church and have often thought about stopping in". But we know you really can't know Honey Creek Church without dropping in and meeting our congregation. The people inside the building are what makes Honey Creek so special. When you stop in, you will feel the people's warmth and connection with each other right away. We understand everyone is at a different stage of spiritual development. We will graciously encourage everyone as we deepen our understanding of God.
Doug has been in pastoral ministry for over 43 years. Deciding at the age of 15 that he wanted to make God central to his life, he was very involved in Southport Nazarene. As he was preparing for college, he thought Accounting and Horticulture was his path and started his college career at Purdue University. But God would lead him to a different path and Doug left Purdue after a year to enroll in God's Bible College. His years there gave him a variety of experiences that would serve him well, including running an inter-city mission in the heart of Cincinnati. After graduating, Doug was appointed to a small rural Nazarene church in Andersonville, IN. During his years serving in the Nazarene system, Doug attended Anderson University and Olivett University, where he pursued a Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling.
Doug had served a United Methodist Congregation at Richland Chapel in Converse, IN. During his time there, Doug had an opportunity to train to become an Air Traffic Controller and left church work to attend the academy in Oklahoma City. After graduating from the rigorous course, he went to work in the Indianapolis Center for Air Traffic Control. But after two years in that field, he once again felt the pull to rejoin ministry in Pontiac, MI and then in his hometown of Greenwood, IN in the Nazarene system. Several years later, he left the Nazarene system when life's circumstances changed the path he was on. He ultimately was called to the United Methodist System in Trafalgar, IN. After 12 years and a new building project, Doug was appointed to Amity UMC in Greenfield and then Elwood First UMC in Elwood, IN. He was able to return to Greenwood in 2019 and began serving at Honey Creek UMC, continuing through disaffiliation with the denomination and the start of the new independent congregation.
Doug and his wife Rhea, a retired Riley RN, have a blended family of four sons and one daughter, Ryan, Lauren, Brian, Brad and Eric, along with their two daughters-in-law, Lyndsey and Linda and one son-in-law, Dustin. Four granddaughters, Layla, Jolene, Angela and Madison bring lots of joy and laughter to the family.
The Bohall's love being back in their hometown of Greenwood and have found a wonderful church family in the Honey Creek congregation. They look forward to whatever God has in store for them as Honey Creek continues to grow.
